I'm so creative when I have nothing much to do. So I came up with yet another series of posts. "Hidden Gems" will introduce you to some great songs that might not be as popular and well-known because they weren't title tracks. At least they are not songs everyone knows... This song was written and composed by Nam Taehyun, WINNER's proud and chic maknae. I listened to it the first time when they had a meeting with YG on WINNER TV and the chorus really got me... And the finished song was even better, it seriously left me speechless...

This video surfaced sometimes this past week and I personally really liked "Hot Pink" as a song and this video just shows that EXID has great vocals and that their members are a little crazy as well. My personal bias is Hani, she is great... I actually don't have that much more to say haha... I just wish all of you a Happy New Year and an awesome start of 2016! So. This song. I've known it for quite some time but I never really listened to it somehow - for a reason unknown to me. But recently (two days ago, to be exact), I completely fell in love with Winner when I started watching WINNER TV. Seriously, the best way to grow fond of bands is to watch them on variety shows... For all of those who don't know about Winner, let me introduce you to the band a little: Winner ist a boy group from YG Entertainment, formed during the survival shows-formated programm "WIN: Who Is Next" where they competed as Team A against Team B (now debuted as iKON). They won and debuted as WINNER, officially in August 2014 with the release of their first album but they did "WIN" and "WINNER TV" before their very official debut. The group consists of five members: Kim Jinwoo, the oldest and a vocalist; Lee Seunghoon, a rapper; Song Minho, another rapper and also was on "Show Me The Money 4" this year; Kang Seungyoon, vocalist and leader and, finally, Nam Taehyun, maknae and vocalist. Before WINNER debuted and word about a new YG boy group got out, there were high expectations because it was YG's first boy group after Big Bang (who debuted in 2006, eight years before WINNER), which is like the most successful group in the industry (*cough* biased *cough*). Seriously though, Big Bang is super successful. Either way, people were curious and expected something like a second-generation Big Bang. In my opinion, WINNER fulfilled these expectations as they became the group who won an award within the shortest time after their debut. (Ironically, they won an award with their debut stage.) As can also be seen on "WINNER TV", all the members were encouraged to write their own songs, and YG himself (the CEO, not the company) wanted them to be creative and make the songs stand out from other songs. I love that about YG, all of their artists are included in the process of coming up with songs and composing, choreography etc... One of my favorite examples regarding that is iKON's B.I by the way, that guy is incredibly (I cannot say this often enough... He just leaves me speechless over and over again...)! Also, he took part in writing "Empty", which surprised me a lot because I wasn't expecting it at all... Okay, after a lot of talking, nooow.... First, take a look at these concept pictures and value the member's visuals. And then, watch the MV and listen to the song and appreciate their vocals and talented rappers and also keep B.I in mind, because I'm super-proud of him. 2015 was a dope year for new K-Pop groups (as well as for K-Pop in general), at least if you ask me. The following list of best rookies of 2015 will be in no particular order and it's only my personal opinion, don't forget that! If you want to check out more 2015 rookies, I recommend looking at these lists: [x] [x] iKON from YG Entertainment I've said it multiple times before, but now again: I love iKON. At first, I wasn't really interested, especially because I heard about some controversy with Bobby on Show Me The Money, so it took me two months to finally get into iKON when I saw them at the Mnet Asian Music Awards on December 2nd. Their album is absolutely great and I love all the songs and their music videos are great as well. They debuted officially on October 4th, but they were widely known before because of their participation in the survival shows "WIN: Who Is Next" as Team B and "Mix&Match" when their final lineup was determined. They are all talented and, I also said it before, especially B.I is incredibly gifted regarding production and songwriting etc. PLUS they already received multiple awards although they only made their debut in October. Find their latest MVs here. Monsta X from Starship Entertainment I liked Trespass but what got me was "Rush" and "Hero", their title songs from their second mini album. Monsta X made their debut this year in May (on the 14th, to be exact) and they are just amazing. They hit it big with their second mini album "Rush" because it was great! I think, Monsta X was one of the few groups I got into without actually seeing them on a show and just because of liking their music. I will watch No Mercy sometimes, also a survival show to determine who would be in Monsta X but I usually don't like these kinds of shows because I think it's pretty brutal and because I empathize a lot with people, I tend to get really upset emotionally while watching survival shows. I've seen a few videos with the members until now and with their first variety show coming up in January, I hope to get to know all of them a little better. I can tell they're super cool though, I liked them from the first time I saw them. Seventeen from Pledis EntertainmentThe first group after Super Junior to have the enormous number of 13 members, I believe. Seventeen in general is really young and dynamic and for me, it was the first group where a member is actually younger than I am. (Vernon's and my birthday are nine days apart.) I liked Seventeen since their debut and I really like their songs and their energy. I haven't seen them on shows often until now (only once on Running Man for the 100 vs 100 episode) and I haven't seen many videos (except for a compilation of them speaking English which was very entertaining and their appearance on "The Qmentary") but now that I think about it, I really should look for some more videos to watch. N.Flying from FNC Entertainment I love FNC artists because they mostly are like real bands, they play their own instruments and so on. And I love N.Flying, ever since I listened to their Single "Lonely" which is a great song... I honestly can't say much about N.Flying, because like it was with Monsta X, I got into them because of their music and not because I saw them on some shows. I think one of them was on the 100 vs 100 episode of Running Man as well, but I'm not even sure. DAY6 from JYP EntertainmentTheir debut song "Congratulations" got me hooked from the beginning. And once again, a group that made me become a fan of because of their music. The title track from their debut album has a happy feeling and I can always listen to it to brighten up my mood. I just realize that there are many many groups I still have to do research on and look up videos and everything... Special Mention: The Ark from MK Entertainment The group's debut song "The Light" is a beautiful song which I love very much but aside from that I haven't really heard anything else from the group. I watched a few of their dance covers (mainly the one when they cover BTS' song "Boy In Luv") and I hope that they will release some more music soon! Okay, now...
I want to wish everyone the best of luck for 2016 and a HAPPY NEW YEAR! (I'm early, but I don't know if I will have the chance to post something tomorrow.) Welcome to a new series of posts! As you may have noticed, most of my posts at the moment are pretty short and simple because I don't have that much time anymore and especially the longer posts take a lot of time and effort to create and all. So I decided to create "DaebakDaily". I will post at least one MV, song, performance or whatever per day (hence "daily") and because it's usually something I really like, it's called "daebak", which is Korean for "awesome". Today, I want to show you a song by iKON's leader B.I, which he performed on a show called "Show Me The Money" which essentially is a rap battle. I may have mentioned it before, but I wasn't into rap at all not that long ago until I came across Big Bang and YG artists. Since then, I've been really into hip and hop and rap. B.I's song "Be I" is just amazing. I can't believe he wrote and composed it on his own - that guy is seriously talented. That's one of the main reasons why I love YG, they have talented artists who are good at rapping, singing and whatever but they can also take part in the creative process of coming up with songs and lyrics and compositions and everything. And B.I is really talented at self-producing. There sure is a reason why he is iKON's leader. He's amazed me with his creative ideas, like when he rearranged "Let It Go" from Frozen and added some hip hop stuff to that song and it was amazing. And when he came up with a 9-members performance for all the contestants of "MIX&MATCH", a YG survival show last year. Now, without further ado, I strongly recommend listening to "Be I" :) |
