Yesterday, I was listening to some of Hyuna's songs and I came up with the idea for this post because I love the fact that Ilhoon is featured in "Roll Deep" - it makes the song so much more awesome! What I'm trying to say is that sometimes it is a really good idea to have artists feature on a song, especially if the main artist is alone. Or for groups who don't have a good rapper (which mostly is the case) or to bring a male or female vocal in because there are basically no mixed K-Pop groups. 1. Born Hater - Epik High (ft Beenzino, Verbal Jint, B.I, Mino & Bobby) This was the first song I listened to by Epik High and I fell in love with the song right away. This is probably my favorite song with featured artists and it's just amazing. Thinking about it, I should really start listening to some more of Epik High's stuff... But well, this song - perfection, seriously. All of their raps are so different, you hear their different styles but it fits together perfectly and I love it so much! 2. The Leaders - G-Dragon (ft Teddy & CL) Everyone of my friends (even those who don't listen to K-Pop) and everyone who has been reading some posts on here should know that G-Dragon is my absolute favorite artist ever, I love that guy so much. So of course I have listened to every single song he ever released (pretty much) and this one is a personal favorite because heck, this is amazing! Also, I really love CL a lot and it's just totally perfect. 3. 잘나가서 그래 (Roll Deep) - Hyuna (ft Ilhoon) Before this song, I didn't even really like Hyuna's music all that much. I knew she was the girl from Gangnam Style (for all of you who didn't know yet) and I knew about her solo stuff, watched the "Red" MV etc but I didn't like it at first. Then this song came around and at first, I was sceptical but the more I listened to the song, the more I grew to like it and now it's one of my two favorite songs by Hyuna. And it was a very good decision to get Ilhoon on board for this because his part is just great! It just fits. 4. I - Taeyeon (ft Verbal Jint) Taeyeon is a very talented singer and when she released her first solo album last year, I was incredibly happy. Plus the title song (this one) was just perfect and with rapper Verbal Jint featuring on this, it's just more perfect. Taeyeons voice and his rap go so well together! 5. Neverland - BTOB (ft G.NA) Neverland is my favorite BtoB song and I am glad to have found it because it wasn't even a title song. Could have been though, in my opinion... G.NA brings in some premium female vocals and the balance between BtoB and her singing is great. 6. 니가 하면 로맨스 (You Call It Romance) - K.Will (ft Davichi) To be totally honest, I only watched this MV because Hyungwon from Monsta X stars in it but then I got hooked on the song. The melody is super sweet and K.Will has a nice voice. I personally only know Davichi from a few songs but what I've heard was all very good! They are very talented and definitely a perfect addition to this! 7. 화 - Mad Clown (ft Jinsil) Back when I first got into K-Pop and had no idea about anything, I found this song and fell in love. The contrast between her singing and his rapping is so awesome, I can't even find suitable words... Let me also clarify: it's not Jinsil in the MV, that's Hani from EXID. 8. Daddy - PSY (ft CL) I was sceptical about Psy's comeback last year. After Gangnam Style he had released a few more songs but I didn't like them at all and in general, I wasn't much of a fan. But I decided to give the album a listen anyways and I was not disappointed (again). This song is by far my favorite and it's just very much Psy-like. 9. Wow Wow Wow - Junjin (ft Eric) When this came out, I didn't even know all that much about Shinhwa yet, thus I had no idea Junjin was a member. When I did finally realize it, I immediately listened to the album and liked this song right away. 10. 또 하루 (Lonely Night) - Gary (ft Gaeko) I knew Gary from Running Man and this was the first song by him that I listened to. Gaeko is half of the rapper duo Dynamic Duo and I'd heard about them before and I definitely liked the combination of the two. Special Mention |
This was an easy pick, to be honest. Zico's first solo mini album "Gallery" is one of my favorites and his songs are just amazing. I think everyone knows he is incredibly good at rapping, he is on SMTM (not as a contestant though) and he writes and produces his own songs which I absolutely love! You should definitely check out his songs! |
Personally, I like "Veni Vidi Vici" best out of the songs - it has the best rap, I think but I also love "Boys and Girls".
2. Bobby (iKON)
Being the winner of SMTM3, iKON's Bobby definitely deserves to be second place in my list! He is so freaking talented and apparently I'm not the only one who thinks that way! And as you'll see, YG artists really dominate this list but in my opinion, Bobby is definitely one of the best. My favorite is "Go", a song he did for SMTM. |
3. B.I (iKON)
B.I, iKON's leader, is really good at rapping as well. Just like Bobby, he was on SMTM3 but was eliminated. He is not only good at rapping, he also writes and produces songs. He composed WINNER's debut lead single "Empty" and Epik High's "Born Hater" on which he also featured as a rapper. My favorite song is "Be I" which he did on Show Me The Money. |
4. G-Dragon (Big Bang)
Although it pains my heart that GD isn't in first place on this list, I am honest with myself. I love him and I love his rapping, but I love the Top 3 guys' rap even more. I like his rap the most in "Crayon" and "MapSoSa" which he composed and produced for the Infinity Challenge Music Festival in 2015 where he was teamed up with Taeyang and Kwanghee. |
5. Mino (WINNER)
Mino, just like Bobby and B.I on the former season, was on SMTM4. His rapping makes my tiny fangirl-heard beat faster and I just love his voice. My favorite songs are "Fear" which he did in the SMTM semi final and which features Big Bang's Taeyang and his parts in "Tonight". (In the video, his parts are the blue ones.) |
6. I.M (Monsta X)
I've been loving Monsta X ever since their debut last year but especially since Rush era. I.M is not my favorite member out of the seven of them but he is so freaking good at rapping. I'm currently obsessed with their new song "All In" and the first time I heard his rap in the beginning of the song, I had a heart attack. In short: I was not ready for that. But I love it incredibly much! And you should definitely check out the song, it's so addicting! (BTW I was also not ready for the MV, so prepare yourselves!) |
7. T.O.P (Big Bang)
I also feel sorry for TOP not to be further up in this ranking because he is genius at rapping! Even before I was into K-Pop all that much I appreciated his rap (that was even when I didn't like rap as much) in "Fantastic Baby". Also, it always fascinates me how he can rap that fast in "Doom Dada" which is why those two songs are my favorite examples of his rapping. |
8. Chanyeol (EXO)
EXO's Happy Virus is also an amazing rapper. When I first heard his voice, I was really taken aback because I hadn't expected it to be that low at all. But OMG am I in love with his voice! I especially love "Heaven", a song he also wrote lyrics for. And when listening to that you should also pay attention to Sehun's part! |
9. J-Hope & Suga (BTS)
It was a tie between Suga and J-Hope and because they're both BTS members I simply included them both. For J-Hope, I just love his voice so much. He sounds a little crazy when he raps and I love it. And Suga, to me, has sort of the same feeling but is also different. I don't know how to explain it but I love them both. |
10. Ilhoon (BTOB)
Special Mentions
Ravi (VIXX)
A friend of mine is like obsessed with VIXX (check out her tumblr blog taekswoons) and she always tells me about them, sends me pictures and videos etc. I like VIXX but it's not my favorite band but Ravi deserves to be mentioned in this list! He recently released a solo single DamnRa. |
Jooheon (Monsta X)
Vernon (Seventeen)
I like Seventeen but I'm not at that point that I can name all the members yet (I'm close though) but what I wanna say is I don't usually do more than listen to some songs and watch the MVs. And I always have to take a moment to realize that Vernon is only 9 days older than me and is pretty successful already. But seriously, I really like his rapping as well, his voice sounds nice. |
